A Valentino campaign is usually an
explosion of candy coloured lace, delicate florals and tulle, using doe-eyed
models with romantic braids and porcelain skin. But the house have a new
campaign star... Terry Richardson's tattooed arm. It's happened, Valentino have
given sleeves the thumbs up.
We wouldn't expect Maison Valentino to
team up with the provocative photographer who has shot Kanye West licking Amber
Rose's skull or Lindsay Lohan holding a gun into her mouth. This is one fashion
photog who has never shot tulle - his archive is packed with greasy haired
starlets lighting up on camera and using bananas as props.
But it seems that Valentino have a secret
love of tattoos and wacky hipsters. As Terry's inked arm, beat Anne Hathaway's
arm or Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop-ed up arm, to feature in the fall accessories
campaign. The new 'arm of Valentino', known for lumberjack shirts,
statement black specs and his handlebar moustache, dangles a pair of studded
heels from his little finger and holds up a studded clutch.
Now Pierpaolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia
Chiuri are at the helm of the house rather than Mr Valentino himself who
retired back in 2007, the design duo are breathing new life into the
house. Chiuri commented the campaign captures 'the sensual yet elegant
nature of our accessories, described as objects of desire.
