NICHOLAS KIRKWOOD is
rumoured to be LVMH's next
acquisition. The luxury conglomerate is said to be one of several potential
backers currently in discussion with the British footwear designer, WWD
reports. Neither company has commented on the speculation yet.
Kirkwood - who launched his label in 2005, after studying at Central Saint
Martins and Cordwainers - won this year's BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund
in January. His prize included £200,000 cash and mentoring from leading
figureheads to help build his business. His sculpted designs have attracted a
wide following, including Alexa Chung, Beyoncé Knowles, Rihanna and Jennifer Lawrence.
If reports are true, Kirkwood would follow in the footsteps of fellow
British designer Christopher Kane - who
sold a majority stake to luxury conglomerate PPR in January.
