Congratulations are in order for J.W. Anderson and Simone Rocha today.
The two designers were awarded the top prize by British Fashion Council’s NewGen sponsorship–the U.K.’s equivalent of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund–WWD is reporting. As such, both Anderson and Rocha will receive money to stage a runway show during London Fashion Week–which means we can probably expect bigger, more produced shows from the two designers this coming season.
We guess it also means that Topshop, who underwrites the scholarship, must have really taken a shine to J.W. Anderson when the two collaborated together on a collection. Could a second J.W Anderson x Topshop collection be forthcoming? We can only hope.
Other designers Christopher Raeburn; J.JS Lee; Marques’Almeida; Nasir Mazhar; Sophia Webster; Sister by Sibling; and Lucas Nascimento, will receive funds to stage presentations, while labels 1205; Liam Fahy; Maarten van der Horst; Palmer//Harding; and Huishan Zhang are the winners of the exhibition sponsorship.
Fashion lovers and industry execs alike would be wise to remember these names–NewGen has helped launched the careers of designers like Lee Alexander McQueen, Jonathan Saunders, Christopher Kane, and more–so there’s really no telling how far this new batch of winners will go.
