Midi skirts bring to mind that archaic term "ladies who lunch," Dior's New Look and the not necessarily chic, "office-appropriate." So although the longer, flared shape has an enviable elegance, a certain ladylike appeal and a sophistication synonymous with classic fashion, it hardly has a rep for anything approaching edgy. For Pre-Fall, designers are giving the midi a modern makeover — done up in pleated leather at Jason Wu, in a graphic snake print at Narciso Rodriguez and color-blocked at Proenza Schouler. Midi, we'll never look at you the same.
