Since the late 1980’s the French designer has in the past dabbled in youth directed labels alongside his own self-named ready to wear and haute couture lines, including Junior Gaultier, Gaultier Jeans, which later became Jeans Paul Gaultier, and Gaultier Puissance 2. The designer has more recently been involved in a designer collaboration with Diet Coke, lending his signature Breton stripes and lacy corsetry to the limited edition cans and bottles.
So what can we expect from this new line, which as of yet remains un-named? WWD reports that it will express Gaultier’s “sartorial” style, and with the younger, almost grungier new direction the previous few ready to wear collections have taken, we think it is the perfect next move for JPG. We expect lots of mesh and netting, silk draped dungaree style playsuits and not-so-conical underwear as outerwear accents. The group to manufacture the line, Ittierre is predicting it will be stocked in over 500 retailers within its first year of launch, all around the world. Eep we can’t wait what he’s got in store for us this time!
