BETSEY JOHNSON will show during the
upcoming New York Fashion Week. The news comes
despite the designer declaring two weeks ago that she would be skipping this
season's schedule.
Johnson has always been a regular fixture on the
NYFW line-up, but this will mark the first unveiling of the designer's new affordable dress line - a
collection that she previously branded unsuitable for a catwalk show. The
Betsey Johnson mainline brand folded after the company filed for bankruptcy in April 2012,
following much-publicised cash-flow problems.
"I just could not stay away from fashion week,"
Johnson told WWD. "I wanted to do this for myself and for all of my fans
to show that I've still got it and I am not going anywhere."
The designer, who celebrated her 70th
birthday last year, is also starring a reality television series with her
daughter Lulu, set to air on The Style Network in the US in spring. Lulu
Johnson is also set to launch her own clothing range later
this year, in collaboration with friend Allison McClellen - entitled Lulu and
Allison.
Betsey Johnson's catwalk show will take place on February
11 at 5pm in the Lincoln Center tents.
