Ulyana Sergeenko is a couture designer, who true to
her craft, exhibits a true flair for the dramatic. Her head-turning personal
style has been well-documented by street style lensmen the world over. A
particular Louis Vuitton Richard Prince inspired look that she donned on the
streets of Paris comes to mind — complete with face veil — as do more of the La
Dolce Vita-esque, elegant and innovative ensembles she's synonymous with
both personally and in her work. Sergeenko is back and hard at work in the
atelier for her Spring 2013 Couture collection, showing Tuesday afternoon in
the City of Lights. BAZAAR caught up with the designer, who shared her
inspiration for the season: "The typical Soviet childhood was one spent
reading books because we didn't have many entertainment options back then.
Books were treated with so much care and respect — it was quite hard to get
them. For every child, books were an opportunity to get away from the reality
to the world of fantasies, adventures and fairy tales. The collection is
inspired by well-known novels, among them the American classics such as Gone
with the Wind, The Wizard of Oz, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,
The Headless Horseman etc. The muse of the collection is Scarlett
O'Hara, especially when played by Vivien Leigh in the famous Hollywood
adaptation." Stay tuned for more news from the Couture front.
