TOM FORD, Burberry, Christopher Kane and Erdem will assume the fashion
spotlight today - a line-up that cements London Fashion Week as a credible
industry force, one that harnesses creativity and imagination as well as
attracting internationally-renowned names.
Ford
is thought to be the reason for the influx of US buyers who have travelled to
the city for this season's event and today he will hold his first ever
full-scale womenswear show in the capital. Previous collections under the
designer's eponymous label have remained intimate and exclusive, with images
offered months after the show took place.
Christopher Kane will present his first show since
signing a deal with luxury conglomerate PPR today - a move that firmly put London
fashion talent in the international limelight. Although it is too early to see
how Kane has reaped the benefits of such a lucrative agreement, his collection
will represent a new stage in the Glaswegian's design career.
Later this afternoon, Erdem
will give us more of his delicately ladylike creations - confections that will
be loved by their owners for years to come. JW Anderson will impress with his
subversive take on femininity; Peter Pilotto will give the US buyers reason for
excitement with the label's sleek printed styles; Louise Gray will embody
London fashion at its most vital and playful, while we prepare to become
acquainted with this season's crop of Fashion East designers - starring Ryan Lo,
Claire Barrow and Ashley Williams. Also to look out for today is Sophie
Webster, a new footwear designer whose styles have already been seen on Chloe
Moretz and Cara Delevingne.
Burberry will attract a very high-profile crowd (and
we're told to expect a few surprises this season), as it delivers what is
always an atmospheric fashion spectacular. Helping round off the day is Giles
Deacon - with a show that will hopefully feature a famous model face or two
(previous appearances have included Doutzen Kroes, Cara Delevingne and Anja
Rubik).
