Need to Know:
Yesterday marked Jordana Warmflash’s first-ever New York fashion week
presentation. Her Fall ’13 collection was inspired by photographs Richard
Avedon took in Paris in the fifties and sixties. The collection had a certain Mad
Men quality to it—with gold brocade pleated coats, black flouncy skirts,
leopard cigarette pants, and blue velvet party dresses—but sleek structured
accents and tailoring gave the retro aesthetic a playful update. When asked
about the Novis woman, Warmflash said she’s someone who likes to get dressed
up, doesn’t take herself too seriously, and appreciates well-made clothing.
She Says: “These girls all have a classic, playful quality. The
collection is about clean lines and tailored looks, but it’s still whimsical at
the same time,” said Warmflash. “Construction is also very important to me, and
all the dresses are probably more beautiful on the inside than they are on the
outside. I choose a different color binding each season. For Fall, we did a
pretty light blue-gray.”
